5/17

Here are some photo updates to show where my garden stands as of 5/17/12

The red onions have really taken off and seem to be very healthy.

The Purple and Gold potatoes are growing steady as well. It took a little while for them to poke through the soil, but once they were out it was off to the races. The Purples seem to be growing at a faster rate. This could be because they recieve approximatley 1 more hour of sunlight compared to the golds. This is due to trees in my nerighbors yard.

I also planted my broccoli and spinach plants. Half of the plants I transplanted from indoors, and the other half I direct sowed. There seems to be no difference. Therefore next year I will just do a full direct sow. Broccoli on the left, Spinach on the right.

Squash is planted as well. This year I decided to lay down the black weed control layer. This will eliminate weeding issues, and it also helps to keep the soil hot. The increased soil temp is very benefical to squash plants. Only time will tell.

Green Beans are up and kicking too. It is all coming together.
