Finishing Touches Add Character

So alot of the aesthetic changes I wanted to make to the interior of the gym are coming to a close. There are always going to be things here and there to do, but you know what I mean. So now my Partner Mike and I are at the point of making the finishing touches. Tonight we hung up 4 large framed photos of some classic professional bodybuilders. We didn’t want to overload the entire gym like it was before so for now we will stick with these.

Nutrabio Protein Shake Add-ons

12/09/12 0 COMMENTS

Another small improvement to the shake area is the addition of Nutrabio Products to the shake menu. Up until this point products like creatine and glutamine were on the menu, but were never in stock. In addition, the prices were so astronomically high that no one was foolish enough to purchase them. Trying to sell 5 grams of glutamine for $2.00 is blasphemous. Same thing with trying to sell 5 grams of creatine monohydrate for $1.00.

It was argued that the reason the products were never in stock was because there was no demand. No Shit ! Why would there be a demand for something when the prices are ridiculous.

Nutrabio products are all pharmaceutical grade and made with the purest ingredients. Adding these to the shake bar will add consistency that customers can depend on. Most importantly I was able to change the prices to reflect reality. Glutamine and BCAAs are now only $.75 per 5 gram scoop and creatine is down to $.50 per 5 gram scoop. Much more affordable.

So cap off your hard training session with a protein shake loaded with Nutrabio add-ons. You wont regret it !

Front Desk Face Lift

12/09/12 0 COMMENTS

Before this project started I asked a few of my clients to describe the front desk in just a few words. These were a few of the best:

- Flea Market

- Bodega

- Stationary store

- Cluttered mess

The list was very long but I will stick with the above. My favorite was Flea market. There was just random shit hanging everywhere. They were attempting to sell things that wouldn’t of sold in the 90′s. There were random colors painted on the walls, posters, and limited sunlight. There was also 4 refrigerators that were inefficiently packed. The front desk is the first impression a customer gets, and this gym’s first impression needed a face lift.

I found this image on the World Gym Babylon website. This is before we started to clean and organize and well before the renovations.

As you can see from the image, the standards were extremly low. A ton of low budget useless clutter. A true World Gym Flea Market.

My idea was to brighten things up a bit and gain access to one of the windows hidden behind the refrigerators. The only way to do this was to eliminate 1 fridge. This turned out to be no problem at all. I simply condensed things and packed them more effectively. Gaining access to the window really changed the entire dynamic of the front desk. I also decided to pull down a few sections of the hanger boards. I felt it was overkill and increased the chances of hanging things just for the sake of hanging things.  Once all these things were done we gave it a nice paint job to finish it up

Pay Attention to Details

19/08/12 0 COMMENTS

I know, I know. This single thing wont turn a gym around, but it was one of my biggest peeves about the gym. I am there to lift hard and intense, not to count the weight stacks because the stickers have eroded away. I am pretty sure those other stickers were from the Reagan years. lol

Just an example that the little things will not be over looked.

Big projects are always the ones that get the most recognition, but you always have to pay attention to details.

Step 1. NEW Paint !

12/08/12 0 COMMENTS

Well I have finally gotten the go ahead to implement some of the changes to the gym that I have been dying to do.

My first call was to change the paint. The urine yellow walls looked HORRIBLE. It also reminded me of my middle school in-school suspension room.

To make matters worse, the gym wasn’t entirely yellow. There were a few random walls painted black, and there was a blue wall in there too. I have no idea who thought painting walls black in a small gym was a good idea, but it was def a dumb idea.

My new color choice was a very light gray. I wanted to open the place up and make it look bright and clean. White would get too dirty, and gray would be a nice neutral to go with the purple upholstery on the equipment. During the painting process I also began to remove a ton of the pointless and tacky signs that were posted all over the gym. There were advertisements for products that weren’t even carried in house.

And who can forget all the tacky looking photos that wrapped the ENTIRE gym. Definite overkill. There should be small sections of photos, but to try to cover the entire gym was a horrible move. It also made the walls look much shorter to the ceiling which in turn made the gym look much smaller.

Here are a few comparison photos…. read more…
